The Virago Manifesto

Every woman's guide to sucking it up (no, not sucking him up) — Here’s the deal. Today we’re going to start something new, again. I’m tired of trying to figure out what people want to hear. I’m sick of learning about SEO techniques. Who gives a shit about a public image? Fuck Grammarly. …

Facebook Is Not A Dating App

This is a Public Service Announcement — Look, I’m not ungrateful. I realize that one day my transmission is gonna fall out at the grocery on aisle four. I know that there will come a day when I’m going to wish a total stranger was trolling me on Facebook. I totally fathom the fact there have got to be chics out there that respond to this type of thing or, it wouldn’t be happening. Yeah, yeah, yeah supply and demand, I get it.

Because I’m a Liar

How Far Will You Go To Avoid Personal Responsibility? — Something I’ve noticed lately is how far some people go to avoid saying, “I fucked up. I’m sorry.” These people are masterful, experts at the art of making excuses. And, boy oh boy, are they some good excuses. When it comes to these people, you go into conversations with them thinking, “I’m gonna call them out today,” and you walk away thinking you did something wrong.

Guilty Pleasure

What Are You Secretly Addicted To — I hate the word ‘addict.’ Everyone is addicted to something. I know plenty of people who are addicted to things that are more intangible, such a control. Many of the things I am addicted to aren’t illegal. For instance: Blank Notebooks People Who Are Self-Sufficient Groceries Documentaries Independence Making Art On the other hand, I know some people whose addiction to food is way more harmful than the amount of Mad Dog’s I drink.

Grit

Perseverance is the determining factor — In psychology, there is something known as ‘grit.’ Grit is a non-cognitive trait based on an individual’s perseverance of effort combined with the passion for a particular long-term goal. Studies have shown that having the ability to overcome obstacles is more important than intelligence or talent. Why do some people succeed and others don’t? The real question is, how great is your desire? It comes down to resilience and how hard you’re willing to work. I don’t know one person who has a sense of entitlement who is truly happy, not one.

Comparing a Gregory Crewdson Photo With Flash Fiction

Apples and Oranges or Are They? — Despite the fact that the end results of these two crafts are overtly contrary in disposition, a Gregory Crewdson photograph and a strong flash fiction story are parallel in their compositional form. Initially, I found the comparison of the two artforms obscure and highly subjective. …

It Takes Balls To Be An Artist

I once heard someone say that the catalyst for creating is desire, not talent. The journey starts with that desire to materialize an idea or message into the tangible world. It’s a transformation of energy. It’s power but, making art is a process. It’s a journey with an unknown destination…

Why Artists Need to Suffer

Van Gogh did it, and he did it well. Aside from the infamous ear-cutting episode, the dude suffered on every level. Undervalued as an artist, depressed, less one ear, and psychotic, he shot himself in the chest at 37. He lived for two days before he died from the gunshot…
